Today is International Women’s Day. A day that day sets a focal point on the movement for women’s rights, as well as a day to celebrate the accomplishments and success women have achieved.
In the TV and film industry they’re are some phenomenal actresses, we take a look at some of the greatest and most influential actresses in today’s TV shows.
Sandra Oh & Jodie Comer – Killing Eve
The award winning TV series Killing Eve was an incredible series, which was renewed for it’s second series not long after the first season aired.
Killing Eve takes on two female lead characters, protagonist Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh) and antagonist Villanelle (Jodie Comer). Throughout the series these two actresses build up a powerful connection between the characters which is so wrong it feels right. Eve is a detective, while Villanelle is a psychopathic contracted killer, they become quite emotionally intrigued with each other.
The actresses show almost every emotion the human body can emit with-in the series, creating a vibe that these character could easily be real.
Season 2 of Killing Eve will air 7th April in the US, we expect it will air shortly after for us in the UK due to how much of a hit the show has been for the BBC.
Emilia Clarke – Game of Thrones
One of the most popular characters in the TV world is played by a woman, the great Emilia Clarke. Emilia Clarke is most known for her character Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones.
In the Game of Thrones series, Daenerys is set on a journey to become Queen of the seven kingdoms. Emilia embraces her character in full force, from being someone without a following to a woman marching forward to rule the world with thousands at her fingertips.
Emilia Clarke’s talent has taken the worlds hearts and takes a well deserved spot on the list!
Krysten Ritter – Jessica Jones
Stepping into the world of superheroes, Krysten Ritter is a powerful female actress, who we love! Krysten is an American actress which plays the female lead and heroine in the Marvel series Jessica Jones. She is also known for her role in Breaking Bad as Jane Margolis.
In the Jessica Jones series, her character is a complete badass, who takes no s**t. No matter what enemy she faces, she beats the living day lights out of.
Kelly Overton – Van Helsing
Kelly Overton is another powerful and great female lead. Her most popular series is Van Helsing, where her character is the ultimate vampire slayer.
She’s also known for her role in another vampire series True Blood, where she plays a ferocious werewolf. From these role it’s clear Kelly loves to play characters with great prowess, which reflects on herself in real-life, she is a very strong woman.
Millie Bobby Brown – Stranger Things
Undoubtedly, Millie Bobbie Brown is an extraordinary woman. At the young age of just 15, she has shown ultimate maturity, held a strong stand for woman and of course, shown amazing acting skills.
Millie Bobbie Brown is known for her role as Eleven in the sci-fi horror series Stranger Things. Her young age doesn’t stop her from being a powerful role model, she has influenced many girls her age as well as much older actresses in the industry.
Kristen Bell – The Good Place
Kristen Bell has been in many TV shows and films throughout the years. She is iconic, hilarious and is fantastic at her craft. Nowadays she is most know for the Netflix series The Good Place, where she plays a pretty reckless woman trying to to good after ending up in “The Good Place” by accident.
Along with The Good Place, she has played key roles in Frozen, Gossip Girl and Veronica Mars.
Melissa Benoist – Supergirl
Melissa Benoist is a super girl, that plays Supergirl in Supergirl – see what we did there?
Jokes aside, Melissa is another brilliant female actress. Most known for her role in the DC Universe series Supergirl, she is another kick-ass woman, who saves the world on a regular basis. You may also recognise Melissa from hit musical series, Glee.
We are excited to see Melissa expand her career and we would definitely like to see her in more TV shows soon.
Meghan Markle – Suits
Currently one of the most iconic women in the world. Meghan Markle was famous for her role in the hit US series Suits, but more recently famous for becoming an actual princess, by marrying our Prince Harry.
There’s nothing much more influential than being a princess, but in doing so she has left her acting career behind. We’re positive she has become an idol for both women in and out of the TV industry.
We hope to see her return to our screens, but unfortunately we feel this is pretty unlikely.
