We know, we know. The wait has been long and tireless. We’ve been looking for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 13 to drop on Netflix in the UK for what seems like eternity. But rejoice, it’s finally here. The show’s been out in the US for a while now. The thirteenth iteration of the modern sitcom classic began its run on FXX earlier in the year on September 5th.

Knowing this, it’s taken a lot of willpower to avoid streaming it before its official release on UK soil. Netflix, however, has given us an early Christmas present with the announcement. It’s Always Sunny season 13 will begin streaming on Netflix starting January 6th 2019.

There was a lot of speculation in the run up to season 13 dropping. For one, it looked to be the case that Dennis (Glenn Howerton) wasn’t going to feature much at all. That turned out not to be the case – although his role definitely changed.

Mac’s (Rob McElhenney) decision to finally come out as gay at the end of season 12 certainly shocked no one – apart from Mac himself. But the exploration of this character direction was a big cliffhanger, leaving fans excited to see how it played out.

An interesting article from The New York Times recently explored the evolution of the gang.

It’s Always Sunny has been running for 13 years, now. Starting all the way back in 2005. This makes it one of the longest running sitcoms of all time. The show has also managed to retain its consistent dark and satirical comedy style without much sacrifice. The character development has also proved exemplary for any series, let alone for a comedy.

A classic example of this is Dennis’ attempt to sell his Range Rover. Or as he likes to call it, an amphibious exploring vehicle. The escalating descent into pure psychosis towards the end of the clip demonstrate his psychopathic tendencies hilariously to a t.

This is just one of the many excellent moments from the series so far. We’re looking forward to more of this in It’s Always Sunny season 13 – especially an episode which is a shot-for-shot remake of a well-known Seinfeld scene. Just to reiterate, the new season will be released in the UK on Netflix on January 6th, so make sure your calendars are clear. And make sure you’ve got your rum ham within arms reach.
