The comedic classic Arrested Development has been a firm favourite at UK Air Dates for a while. Originally airing in the early noughties, the show went off the air back in 2003. Presumed to be cancelled forever, it was a warm surprise for many fans when Netflix announced, in 2013, that they’d be bringing it back. So far we’ve seen a fourth and half a fifth season, with Arrested Development Season 5 part 2 just around the corner.
It’s been a bit of a rocky road for the Netflix production thus far. Season 4 was pretty poorly received compared to the original broadcast. Netflix reportedly struggled to get all the actors together at once, so filming appeared disjointed. The fifth season rectified some of these issues by bringing the cast together; including Jason Bateman, Tony Hale, Will Arnett, Jeffrey Tambor, Michael Cera and Portia De Rossi.
It was decided that season 5 would be split into two parts and released separately. The first part was released in May, 2018 and Arrested Development season 5 part 2 is dropping on 15th March, 2019. With the impending latest release of the show, Netflix have revealed a teaser trailer which you can check out below.
Here’s what Netflix had to say about the second half of Arrested Development season 5 in their official synopsis:
In the second half of Arrested Development’s fifth season, pressures mount on the Bluth family as Buster heads toward a murder trial. The Bluth company is on the hook to build a ’smart’ border wall that puts them in debt and risks exposing a software hoax perpetrated by George-Michael. Soon the gay mafia is involved and it appears that even Michael can’t save the family this time. And Tobias becomes a Golden Girl.
It may well be the case that this second part marks the end of Arrested Development on Netflix. With Portia De Rossi reportedly retiring from acting and the remaining cast members casting doubt on a sixth season (due to controversy), this is most likely a swan song for the show – let’s hope it’s a worthy one.
