Petrol head, shed man and top bloke James May, has bagged himself a solo series with Amazon! Amazon Prime Video have already announced that all The Grand Tour boys will be getting their own individual series, but it’s to our surprise that James May’s series has been announced first… being Captain Slow and all!

About the Prime series – Our Man in Japan

Titled “James May’s Our Man In…Japan”, the series will follow James May (The Grand Tour, Top Gear, James May’s Man Lab, Toy Stories), as he sets on a quest to explore and understand the truly remarkable country that is Japan.

From Godzilla, Cosplay and Hello Kitty to Sushi, the bullet train and Karaoke. Japan has brought the world a lot of great stuff, now James May will embark on an adventure travelling through Japan, North to South. He is determined to understand the culture, uniqueness that drives the Japanese culture.

There is one problem though… May can’t speak Japanese, is clueless about Japanese Etiquette and will be a fish out of water. So we are sure it’s going to include some laugh out loud moments.

It’s been fifteen years since James May first visited Japan, he told Amazon:

‘Japan is the most amazing place I’ve ever visited,’ ‘Everything about it is a surprise: a boiled sweet, a bullet train, an unexpected ancient temple, and the challenge of eating a single edamame bean with chopsticks. It’s a class A stimulant for all the senses, and an etiquette minefield for the unwary. I intend to immerse myself in it completely, in the pursuit of enlightenment and life balance. And I bet the noodles will be fantastic.’

Our Man In Japan will be directed by BAFTA TV Award nominee Tom Whitter and executively produced by Will Daws. Both of which have had involvement with shows featuring James May before.

James May’s Our Man In Japan Air Date and Channel

The series started filming Monday 11th March, with no air date currently set. It will launch exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in over 200 countries and territories.

‘We’re incredibly excited to announce this new project with James, which will see him take on an epic thousand mile journey across ancient Japanese islands, mega cities, and all points in between,’ said Georgia Brown, Director of Prime Original Series in Europe.’

We can’t wait to see this new series, will you be watching it? Let us know what your thoughts on the new series in the comments.
