Where is The Expanse season 3 in the UK?

Sci-fi thriller extraordinaire The Expanse has become a firm fan favourite in recent years. Originally appearing on Syfy in the US, the show was subsequently cancelled after 3 seasons. The initial broadcast rights for the UK were purchased by Netflix, who began airing the show in 2016. However, only the first and second seasons of The Expanse were made available to UK viewers. The show has now also been removed from Netflix.

Turns out there was a bit of a bidding war going on, especially once The Expanse was cancelled by Syfy. In comes Amazon and their seemingly bottomless budget. They purchased the global rights to the show, and have since made the show available on Amazon Prime Video.

Curiously enough however, those trying to access The Expanse season 3 in the UK are currently unable to. This is to do with the fact that not only have Amazon purchased the broadcasting rights, they’re also interested in producing more episodes for future seasons. Because of this the streaming company are likely staggering the release of season 3 to fit in with an upcoming fourth season.

What’s the news on The Expanse season 4?

There’s currently no confirmed air date for The Expanse season 4. We do know one thing though: filming likely began back in September 2018, as stated by Cas Anvar (who plays Alex).

We can determine from this that we should see The Expanse season 4 air around the middle of 2019. As far as the differences between the US and UK are concerned, that’s still up in the air. It makes sense then, that we should see The Expanse season 3 go live in the UK before this – an early 2019 release date on Amazon seems likely then. Hurrah!

In terms of which actors we’ll see back, an interview between showrunner Naren Shankar and Entertainment Weekly revealed some interesting info. Definitely returning are Cara Gee (Camina Drummer), David Strathairn (Klaes Ashford), and Frankie Adams (Bobbie Draper).

The storyline for season 4 is still very much under wraps, but we’ve recently been treated to a behind the scenes video. Check it out here.
