BritBox
A huge announcement in the TV industry has been dropped. Two of the biggest television companies BBC and ITV have teamed up to bring us a BRAND NEW streaming service called BritBox.
This is extremely exciting and big news, but what will the streaming service offer?
What is BritBox?
BritBox is a streaming service created by ITV and the BBC. It is a platform to bring you the very best of British box sets and new exclusive original series. We have had huge series and shows come from both the TV giants so far this year and they just seem to get better and better, we just seem to have the knack for great TV shows and BritBox is certainly going to be a big player for British TV.
The service will have an unrivalled collection of British TV and series, being available on demand providing:
- The biggest collection of British content available on any streaming service
- Brand new commissions for British production companies specifically created for BritBox
Carolyn McCall, CEO of ITV said: “I am really pleased that ITV and the BBC are at the concluding stage of discussions to launch a new streaming service. BritBox will be the home for the best of British creativity – celebrating the best of the past, the best of today and investing in new British originated content in the future.”
BBC Director-General, Tony Hall commented, saying: “I am delighted that the BBC and ITV are working together on something truly special – BritBox. A new streaming service delivering the best home-grown content to the public who love it best. The service will have everything from old favourites to recent shows and brand new commissions. It’s an exciting time for the viewing public.”
When is the BritBox Streaming Service Available?
BritBox is aiming to launch in the second half of 2019. We’ll update this space once a specific date has been given.
How much does BritBox Cost?
Currently no pricing has been confirmed by ITV or the BBC for BritBox, however it is said to be competitive. If we take a look at other streaming service such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and NOW TV, we can expect the price for BritBox to be around £5-£10 per month.
