Ever wondered if there was a way to watch big American TV shows like Archer, MythBusters and BoJack Horseman on UK broadcast TV for free? Turns out it’s much easier than you think. This is all thanks to a new Freeview channel called DMAX, which launched on Freeview in the UK on 16th January, 2019.

Owned and run by The Discovery Network, the channel replaces what used to be known as the Travel Channel. Once a paid offering, DMAX moving to Freeview means that the content will now be freely accessible to UK audiences. It won’t, however, be a direct like-for-like replacement for the Travel Channel.

DMAX is said to have more of an “adventurous tone” revolving around a “more is more” brand (according to Deadline). The new channel focuses on survival, extreme lives, motoring and comedy.

“We’re incredibly excited to launch DMAX on free to air in the UK as a destination for male audiences who want to live life to the max and indulge their passions in a fun environment created especially for them.”

Simon Downing, SVP, Head of Factual and Sport.

DMAX is the latest edition to Discovery’s free to air portfolio in the UK. It joins the already airing Quest, Food Network and Quest Red on Freeview. DMAX is available on Freeview channel 42 and Freesat channel 150; this is along with Sky channel 178 and Virgin channel 213.

“Its launch strengthens and diversifies our free to air portfolio in the UK, allowing us to engage more audiences than ever before with compelling real-life entertainment.”

Simon Downing, SVP, Head of Factual and Sport.

This new Discovery channel, DMAX, has been available in Europe for over a decade now. It’s proven itself a great success. Since 2008 it’s been accessible on German, Italian, Austrian, Swiss and Spanish free to view providers. Any UK viewers trying to watch episodes of Deadliest Catch and Wheeler Dealers, DMAX is the place to go.
