Many a rumour has been bounded about recently about Modern Family. Will we see an 11th season? Is it finally coming to an end? Well now we know the truth. ABC have confirmed that its long standing sitcom Modern Family will get another season, but it will be the show’s last.

ABC, the now Disney owned broadcaster, announced on Tuesday 5th February that they’d secured a renewal for the show. However, this positive news was met with the disappointing confirmation that Modern Family Season 11 would be a finale.

The entirety of the 21st Century Fox assets (which includes ABC) are set to move over to Disney’s possession shortly. This cancellation then, comes as not much of a surprise to many. Modern Family actors Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ty Burrell, Ed O’Neill, Eric Stonestreet, and Sofia Vergara have each signed new contracts up to the 2019/20 TV year.

This has now been met with confirmations that the younger stars (Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould, and Rico Rodriguez) will return. Although the network has seen gradually lower views season after season, they’ve still stuck with it to give the show a proper send off.

“Chris and Steve have created one of the most seminal and iconic comedies in television history, In its final season, there will be more milestone events that anyone who has been a fan of the series won’t want to miss.”

Karey Burke, president of ABC Entertainment

“For 10 years, our characters have bravely faced turning points in life and moved through them to great personal enrichment; we have chosen a different path by doing one more season of ‘Modern Family,’”
