New Batman Prequel Series Called Pennyworth

Pennyworth is an Epix original and a prequel TV series of the Batman franchise. Pennyworth will focus on Batman’s butler – Alfred Pennyworth, before the time of Batman as we know it. The series will brought to you by the producers of Gotham.

What is Pennyworth about?

Pennyworth is set in 1960s England and follows a young Alfred Pennyworth, a former British Special Operations Executive who starts his own his own security company through which he ends up working with billionaire, Thomas Wayne (Batman/ Bruce Wayne’s father).

Pennyworth Series Cast

We are seeing fresh faces for the Pennyworth series that haven’t been in a Batman franchise production before. We only know some cast members so far, with more to be announced.


Jack Bannon as Alfred Pennyworth
Jack Bannon is known for hit films The Imitation Game and Fury and will be playing as a young Alfred Pennyworth. The series is set in a different universe to that of Gotham, which is why we are seeing a new actor for Alfred.

Ben Aldridge as Thomas Wayne
Ben Aldridge is best known for the TV series Our Girl. Aldridge will be playing Thomas Wayne, a perfect fit aesthetically.

Ryan Fletcher (Outlander, Shetland) and Hainsley Lloyd Bennett (Casualty, Eastenders) will be regulars on the series playing as Alfred’s lifelong army friends.

What is the Pennyworth Air Date?

Pennyworth is to finish filming mid-2019, which means the series will most likely be released late 2019 in the US.

Can you watch Pennyworth in the UK?

Pennyworth is an Epix Original and will air on the Epix subscription service, which is currently for the US only. There is no current announcement for a UK release, once we find out about a UK release we will update this page to let you know! 🙂
