Penny Dreadful is a British-American horror drama television series based on explorer Sir Malcolm Murray (Timothy Dalton), American gunslinger Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett), scientist Victor Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway), and medium Vanessa Ives (Eva Green), who unite to combat supernatural threats in Victorian London. The series also features Helen McCrory who stars in Peaky Blinders. Originally airing in 2014, the show came to its natural conclusion at the end of the third season in 2016. The title refers to the ‘penny dreadfuls’, a vintage British publication featuring sensational and lurid articles.
